FAQ

WHAT IS BODY MASON?

Body Mason is a well established Boutique Pilates Studio located in the heart of Rosedale. Toronto, ON founded by Emma-Kate Miller in 2015. The studio Prides themselves on their well educated teachers & on their small class sizes (machine classes have 6 people in each class + mat classes have 12). With those small class sizes Body Mason has the ability to give people the comfort in knowing that no matter how much experience they have in Pilates, you are seen & appropriate adjustments will be made.

WHAT ARE SOME BENEFITS OF PILATES?

Pilates has numerous benefits including improved posture and muscle tone, stronger abdominals and spinal muscles, increased flexibility, coordination and body awareness. Private sessions can also target and strengthen personal areas of weakness or vulnerabilities and develop more balanced musculature.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT ON MY FIRST PRIVATE SESSION?

Your teacher will guide you through some fundamental principles of alignment and get you moving through a variety of Mat and Reformer exercises. This gives you a light workout and an overall sense of the diversity of Pilates. It also gives your teacher an idea of your goals and you can discuss options on how to move forwards.

WHAT DO I WEAR TO CLASS?

Dress comfortably enough to move freely. Any variety of workout clothes is appropriate including loose-fitting (not too baggy) sweatsuits, shorts, t shirts etc. Shoes are not required as Pilates is done in socks or bare feet.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO CLASS?

Just yourself! We provide mats, all your props, towels, and water.

IS THERE ANY STUDIO ETIQUETTE I SHOULD BE AWARE OF?

Please turn cell phones off when entering the studio. If arriving early, you are welcome to enter the studio and warm up – space permitting. Simply lying down on a mat and breathing deeply can be a great precursor to a workout.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I DO PILATES FOR IT TO BE EFFECTIVE?

This varies depending on your goals as well as what other physical activities are involved in your week. However, 2-3 times per week is recommended. This could be a combination of private classes and work at home or group classes.

I PRACTICE YOGA REGULARLY AND AM VERY FIT, DO I STILL NEED TO START WITH ESSENTIAL PILATES?

Yes. Although there is some overlap, Pilates is very specific and the more precise you can be with alignment the better. Also, all of our classes involve some equipment and you need to have a general working knowledge of the equipment before joining group classes.
